I haven't been around here much recently.
I thought I there must have been an error in the site database when I saw this thread I started back in 2005.

It is nice to hear some more information about Ronnie.

Can somebody explain what kind of contraption Ronnie has going here?
2 hoses connected to the chanter top with one of them wrapped around his neck?

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Isn't it just two longer than normal hoses, just so his pal can hold the rest of his set of pipes? One of them comes from the bellows, and one from the chanter. Apart from being longer than normal, the rest is as usual, isn't it?

"so his pal can hold the rest of his set of pipes"

erm, I think tht's Neillidh Mulligan holding his own set of pipes.
And (as may have been pointed out) that handsome devil with the glasses is Mick O'Brien.

Is that really Neilidh Mulligan? Good grief! I think I prefer him now ... :)

So why has he got extra long tube thingies then?

The "Guerilla pipes." Kind of explained here: Chiff and Fipple Forums • View topic - Ronnie Wathen's magic drones. He wrote an An Piobarie article about it too, as I recall. Early 70s. I've seen worse, although in that old thread I compared Ronnie's rig to an enema kit...

Ronnie Wathen Irish Poet & Piper. Some handbill you can print out if so inclined. Nice sketchwork.

That's Mal Whyte (as I suggested above by the way).

I met Ronnie years ago in the London pipers club,he had a unique piping style. I learned recently that he left some money in his will for the members of the LPC so they could have a drink in his memory.
