Recently arrived from the Montreal workshop of upiper1971, a set of Boxwood drones in C to accompany my Kiernan C chanter:

Image

The drones were made over the past 18 months. The hollow mainstock is of maple. The reeds are synthetic. They sound great and provide a lovely gentle accompaniment to my soft-spoken C chanter. Daryl also reeded the chanter to match the drones.

Thanks to Daryl for the time, dedication and patience in making them. Thanks also to Nick Whitmer for the bag, CJ Dixon for the stock-cup and Bill Haneman for the advice he generously provided to Daryl.

I've no idea. I've showed the chanter to a few people who know a bit about Kiernan and they've informed me that MK didn't often make keys, or maybe only Cnat.

Andreas Rogge D-set. A couple of months old now.plays wonderfully. A set for life. Ebony, boxwood and brass. The chanter (Rogge) is older and I have to change the configuation on it later on. I will add boxwood and brass. The other chanter is a David A. Boisvert in C.

I love the way ebony, box and brass looks. My own Rogge narrow D is made from this combination, too.

Lovely set!

I thought I'd have a crack at this thread. I'll do an initial post and see whether I can properly submit the image. If that works, I'll post a few more.

Drones by Joe Kennedy in D, made in November 2006. Chanter by Dinny Quigley (used and of unknown age).

Here goes:

I hope this isn't too big. Apologies if it is.

The bellows above are also by Dinny Quigley, repaired once by Mick Dooley (your repair is still holding Mick :) ). The Quigley chanter is supposed to be a copy of a 1932 Leo Rowsome chanter. The accents are mother of toilet seat.

Here's a few more shots of the Joe Kennedy drones. Apparently one of the few sets of drones he completed while working in Armagh. Stock is stamped "JEK Armagh". Accent bits are in boxwood. Unfortunately the flash rather drowned out the colour of the boxwood, which is darker than these shots imply. The rest is either ebony or blackwood, not sure which. I especially like the end of the baritone drone. It flares in a really subtle way. These babies purr like kittens.

Here's the mid section:

Here's the bendy bits of the base drone:

Shut off valve etc:

Back of the main stock. The stock is of maple, formerly part of Mrs. Kennedy's girlhood bedstead. You can see the metal bits are hand rolled in this shot:

Once again, the whole shebang:
