I have the same opinion regarding my Childress full sets - and no lust for the contrabass reg. I'm quite content with what I have now.CHasR wrote:I made up my mind years ago my full concert Gallagher would be my 'PIPES FOR LIFE'...so unless I inherit a set or get filthy rich Im sticking with what I got, come hell or high water.
(Altho, the idea of a contrabass reg is making me positively drool with envy... :P )

Are any makers able to do these - guess they are quite tricky to make looking at D Quinns article in SRS2. 4 tapered bores in one piece of wood and keywork on top and bottomTaylor set with double bass reg and quadruple bore small regs

Apart from Rogge which other makers use this timber and apart from looking pretty does it give a superior soundSnakewood

Snakewood
Chris Bayley has got some fantastic snakewood logs, but he is reserving them for full sets only. Here is a photo of the first chanter out of one of the smaller logs.
I played it after it was turned and it was excellent, and compares to any blackwood chanter.
I suggested that to discourage the frivolous dilletantes he should only make snakewood pipes after the potential buyer submits an audition CD. What do you think?

What can I say, I am a magpie when it comes to my instruments (better not say too much about the 11 bodhrans, 3 flutes, 30 plus whistles, 2 djembes, darbuka, udu drum, talking drum and harp)Wannabe-Piper wrote:BigDavy wrote:Present Sets -Angus Bb full set, Roberts B half set, Daily D half and 5/8th sets, Pakistani full set (currently in bits I got it cheap). 2 Practice sets in D, Ginsberg Bb chanter, Dixon B chanter, Chanters in D by Daily (2), Pakistani, Dixonised Pakistani, Bagpipes Galore plastic one (for a laugh), Martin Crossan, James Brand and an experimental pastoral chanter by Daily.
