Electronic Pipes ...

Post by weedie »

G'day Pipers all ..
Just wondering about those Electonic Bagpipe thingos ..
Do any of them have the same fingering as an Uilleann Pipe chanter ?? ....with the Drone ?? In the Key of D ???
Has anyone had any experience with them and could I have their opinion please...
Last time I heard about them them a few years ago, they were quite expensive..
Regards from OZ ...weedie........

OK I've had them for about 4-5 month now, and I am very pleased, starting with the fact that I have become much better on the "real" instrument now when I can practise on the vipipes anywhere. It's a great instrument with a feel very near the real thing. As Chis wrote, read the vpipe threads. There's also a lot of youtube clips and if you like you can read this interview with one of the vpipe men on my web site:

Well, if you just want to experiment with the fingerings, there's always my Uilleann app for the iPad:

An iPad starts around $500.00, app is $4.99 and of course the iPad is useful for a lot more than Uilleann pipes simulators.

Thanks amigos..
I've just sent a mail to the Vpipes people requesting some info....
I think they'd be a good thing for me as I have a bad right shoulder, due to a Motorcycle crash a few years back...(yes,it was on the bike pictured,a 1973 Ducati GT..I was doing a mere 10 miles an hour when a young lass decided that now was the time to do that U-Turn :x :swear: )...anyways,I landed on the right shoulder and its been crook ever since ..
Its good to know that Liraman has found that he is better on the "real thing" too...I might be able to dust off my real Pipes, which are a half set made by me with an Ian McKenzie (Australia) chanter....
Thanks once again for you help all ...weedie......
