It is with great reluctance that I offer for sale my Patrick and Aaron Olwell restored Henry Wylde Cocus and sterling silver 8 key flute circa 1840. This is a GREAT playing flute...all the way down to the easiest and hardest low C I have ever played (which is exceptionally easy to sound). Tuning is really great, but you do have to lip down the B a tiny bit but no more so than several modern made flutes I've played. No flat foot syndrome at all. It has a working screw-cork adjuster, silver lined key channels, and is simply beautiful. I am selling only because it aggravates some tendon issues I have in my right hand. I worked with a massage therapist trying to fix the tendon issue, but to no avail and my Copley doesn't aggravate my right hand at all...so that's what I'll be playing. This flute deserves to be played regularly, so my hand pain is your gain!
The flute was originally restored by Patrick and Aaron Olwell in 2010, including repairing a crack through the embouchure and making a new barrel...the rest is original and clearly marked on all sections but the barrel. In 2023, the crack in the headjoint reopened, I sent it back to Patrick who finished repairs in January 2024 and also found a "tiny crack" he repaired in the RH section that I have never been able to locate and was unaware of.
Patrick's repair note with wrong year listed but charming final bullet:

Condition: Restored by Patrick Olwell.
Note from Blayne: Those looking for an antique Rudall type flute that plays awesome at A440, this is it. Also, the foot keys work really really well! (yes, two reallys
Note: The original head joint plays fantastic. We do have a Cocus Olwell headjoint currently in stock which fits this flute. If you want to get every bit of power out of this flute, you might consider pairing the two. (Adds we'll say "10%" more oomph!)
Notes from Patrick:
"I stamped this with a year for when repairs were done. The O and O means [Patrick] Olwell and [Aaron] Olwell. Makes it look nice, and functional. In this case there was some tuning to be done, and a silver cap put on.. This Wylde is a valuable 170 year old antique, made for La Crème of 19th Century players.
Henry Wylde flourished in London between 1832 - 1850. In addition to working with Rudall and Rose, Wylde continued to make flutes for them - to be stamped Rudall Rose - after he started working on his own. This flute has all the looks and playability of a fine vintage Rudall Rose flute from the 1830s – the golden period. It is slim and elegant, with holes that are on the small side. There is plenty of volume and the flute holds its own against louder instruments. It plays nicely at A=440 with the slide pulled out about 13mm (1/2”). The elegant keys all work well.
The barrel is a new cocus sleeve over the original tube, stained with nitric acid to match, so there are no cracks in the tuning barrel. This accounts for the lack of the "Wylde" stamp on the barrel. “Wylde” appears on the center joints and on the foot joint. The blocks and keys are undamaged, unrepaired, and look perfect. The silver-lined keyways add strength and stability to the key blocks. Overall it is in remarkable condition for a flute of this age."
