I am selling a Sam Murray five-key flute. It was made in the late 1990s, when Sam was recognized as a great flute-maker. This particular flute was used by Desi Wilkinson when he recorded with Cran, the great traditional Irish group. The flute is in excellent condition. Sterling silver rings, keys, and tuning slide. No chips or cracks or warp. The flute shows some minor scratches that are difficult to photograph and which could be buffed out. The flute plays beautifully, with good volume, good projection, and excellent intonation – as can be heard in the clip. The keys work smoothly and the pads seal well. The flute has always been kept clean, humidified, and oiled. There are no issues with this instrument. I will be happy to send pictures on request, in addition to the Youtube clip.
A Sam Murray flute of this vintage and provenance, in such good condition, is seldom offered for sale. I am asking $3,800. The flute comes with a beautiful fitted rosewood (?) case. The price includes the cost of mailing/insurance within the USA.
