Rudall & Rose Number 1696 SOLD

Post by tstermitz »

I'm putting up my 8-keyed small-holed Rudall & Rose #1696 for sale: $4,400

Photos at https://www.photokinesis.info/Rudall-Rose-1696/

This cocus flute has been completely renovated and put into excellent playing condition by Jeff Denning, who cleaned, repaired minor problems and re-padded (leather pads), and Jon Cornia who replaced the cracked barrel with a perfect piece of new cocus wood.

The flute plays perfectly from low C & C#, up to at least the high A. The flute has a clear, sweet tone, that plays very nicely in the third register. (While I'm not an expert in the high register, my embouchure can take me to G on most flutes; on this one I can manage the high A.)

Small holes make the articulations snappy and easy.

The address on the stamp indicates that this flute was made between 1827 and 1837, although the serial number suggests toward the earlier side. The foot joint is a replacement by Rudall, Rose, Carte & Co in the 1850s.

I'm located in Colorado, USA if anyone wishes to try it.
