FS: Jon Swayne - Low F - Boxwood SOLD

Post by RPereira »

Dear whistlers,

I have for sale a Jon Swayne Low F whistle in boxwood.
I am selling it because I am not playing it as frequently as it deserves.
I just played it a few times and it is in a like-new condition.
I always take great care of my woodwind instruments and the whistle has been always well stored and conditioned.

As you might know, Jon is an excellent craftsman and makes extraordinary whistles and he is a reputable maker of not only whistles but bagpipes as well.

Jon’s whistles are optimized for one octave and a sixth and is on the loud side.
This means that the top notes of the second octave will need a bit more punch.
Nevertheless it is possible to play two full octaves as you can testify from the music samples I have below, although with challenging slides into the 2nd octave flattened 7th and playing the 3rd octave F note.
The backpressure is on the medium and maybe slightly high side, it has more backpressure than a Chieftain or KPro and about the same or a tad higher than an MK.

His whistles play very well with cross-fingerings for the flattened 7th, 6th and 5th which is another great aspect from his design.

His whistles have a unique timbre, different from all other whistles like the MKs, Goldies or Chieftains.
If you like playing different woodwinds, you will greatly appreciate Jon’s whistles.
Jon’s whistles have presence and an amazing character.
I bought the Low F whistle directly from Jon’s at his place and he his such a nice person.

As you might know, Carlos Núñez plays Jon’s whistles.
Here is some of his playing in a Low F I believe.

Tomoaki Hatakayema "Hatao" is a top notch whistle player as well.
Listen to him at this video below where he reviews one Jon Swayne’s Low F.

Below you can listen to some tunes I have recorded.
I selected those tunes because their notes range more or less across the two full octaves.
I am playing different tunes at different tempos and styles to show how the whistle behaves.
(Please ignore any bad playing, it is the player not the whistle…)

Do not hesitate to contact me if you need more details.
