Needed: Chiffboard Tech Administrator

Post by MTGuru »

Fabulous opportunity! Career advancement! Unlimited power! World domination!

OK ... not really. But your friendly ChiffCo. staff are looking for a kind volunteer willing to donate a few hours per week to help keep the Chiffboard running smoothly and assist Dale and the mods with future upgrades and changes.

Qualifications include familiarity with phpBB, PHP, mySQL, Linux, and of course, the Chiffboard itself.

If you think you might be interested, just post a brief reply to this thread or drop me a PM. Please, serious replies only - OT comments will be removed. Once we're a bit further along we'll contact you directly. Thanks!

Good gravy, if you'd asked this 6 months ago,
I would have jumped on it like a trampoline
covered in jello. Now, with the advent of the
second baby, I'll be lucky to have a few free
hours a month, even. That said, if you still
find yourself lacking after some searching, let
me know and I'll see if I can reassess.

Except for phpBB, I've got experience in all
that you require, and that doesn't happen often.
You may want to loosen your criteria. People
with experience in php & mySql would probably
pick up phpBB in no time. A lot of times techies
don't apply for jobs when the requirements have
been written too restrictively. It's a frequent
problem for hiring managers.

Maybe I should setup a sample phpBB server to
see how hard it is...

That's a good point. A comfort level with Linux and SQL is important because those are harder to acquire. But PHP is pretty straightforward to learn, and the expertise needed to examine and tweak the existing phpBB code for our purposes is fairly modest for an experienced programmer.

I'll help. What do you need?

I am a little light on SQL, but that is a skill set I am interested in getting. I have done some PHP, but I have a lot of other scripting languages under my belt, such as Perl, Ruby, and Javascript.

Problem with using the 'view new posts' button is it seems that one can completely miss things.

I would be willing to help out. I do know php and MySQL - have done Linux (though I'm more a Mac person since it what I mostly use) - I've probably checked out phpBB at some point but can't say I'm familiar with it, but I learn fast.

Let me know if I can help.
