Yep, classic "lost in translation"
At songbird, they call that 'straw fire' since they.... Fire it with straw in a box.
I had one, but had to eventually sell it. They do warn you of the weird smell, but it never went away for me me, even after 6-7 months.

if you look down the group of pictures on that ad you'll see a raw clay ocarina wrapped in bits of straw, ready for the firing. It's the straw that gives the two-tone finsh. 'Fumigated' is a bad translation referring to the smoke from the straw that gives the color. It's an interesting look but it does have an odd smell.
