anyone making shinobue style flutes?

Post by meoweth »

looking to buy 7 hole bamboo flute.
7th hole is 3 semitones lower than standard 6 irish keyless flute.
Key of B would be easy enough for the stretch.

Tell us something.: Professional Japanese shinobue and Chinese dongxiao player, amateur bamboo flute maker. Interested in learning more about flute-making in general, but mostly working with bamboo.

Hi,

New to this forum, and joined mainly because I've recently started trying to make my own shinobue, after playing professionally for over 15 years. I can't say I've been consistently successful though; out of about 15 flutes I've made so far, only about 5 of them are to-spec (in tune across 2.5 octaves and with reasonable-sized finger holes). 3 of those I've shipped to friends for free as I considered them prototypes. I do have a #5 (A major scale starting from the 2nd hole, so the 7th hole covered is an F#) that I just made this week that plays quite well if you're interested and want to PM me about it.

Master shakuhachi player Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos also makes shinobue, in Vancouver.
