other wooden flute repertoire?
Just curious, aside from Irish traditional music, what other repertoires/styles of music have you explored on the simple-system flute? And are there any particular players who inspire you?

Re: other wooden flute repertoire?
Well, Scottish (of course, as a Scot!) and other trad/folk cultures + Classical (mostly Mozart and Gluck, for which my four-keyed Copley's more fun but arguably not that much more 'appropriate' than a Boehm) and Romantic for a start...
But really anything that takes my fancy and fits!

I don't play an awful lot of ITM these days. I play a lot of Playford tunes, O'Carolan, and baroque music, mostly Telemann.
My favorite player is Chris Norman; I prefer his stuff with the Baltimore Consort to most of his solo stuff (except The Man with the Wooden Flute). Their album of Playford is really wonderful.

- Tell us something.: I like whistles, flutes, lyres, cittern/mandolin/bouzouki family instruments, as well as heavy and nasty slap bass. Languages, linguistics, history (especially Migration Period and Bronze Age Europe), cuisine from various parts of Latin America, chili growing, bushcraft, and the works of JRR Tolkien also tickle my fancy.

Breton! Jean-Michel Veillon!
There are many other styles of music I'd like to expand into a tad bit in the future, as well. However, for now Irish, Scottish, and Breton tunes are my main thing.

getting used to always use G#, A#, Fnat, Eflat...
and following the duo Chris Norman and David Greenberg too.
Still 25 years or more, and I will be able to play this properly (maybe) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQxpFn-biy8
{There is an incredible flute version on "the flower of port williams"}
Bit lazy on ancient scottish music and baroque pieces, but I'm not giving up yet!
;- )
Flute is so fine and so good!

Re: other wooden flute repertoire?
+1 for Jean Michel Veillon, totally inspiring and a really nice fellow as well.
I hardly play any ITM at all, but lots of English, French and Scandinavian tunes sit very well on the flute. Ben Paley's book 'Swedish fiddle Music' is a joy, especially if you can persuade a friend to join you as there are harmony parts for all the tunes.
I've also found that a lot of ragtime tunes work nicely on the wooden flute - might need a transposition to get it into a reasonable home key, but after that it's fun stuff and really gets me out of the traditional music idiom.

Re: other wooden flute repertoire?
Here is an eclectic collection of music on the ‘simple flute’ – maybe not everyone will draw the same line, but ignoring the squabbling about definitions, here goes, some of my favourites:
French bal folque
@ the duo Brotto – Lopez: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNuyXX-mbAM
- Les Genoux: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEj1xdpUZIA
Cuban charanga (the many early players used the simple system flute, in later times they often changed (back and forth!?) to Boehm):
@ Richard Egües (and his Orchestra Aragón): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpD16rFPPNg
- Jose Fajardo (the inventor of the ‘Fajardo wedge’): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXvwoYlTOv8
West-Africa: the ‘fula flute’ (note the huge mouth hole and how the player 'talks' and blows at the same time):
@ Bailo Bah: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jAdY7Dko2g
- Dramane Dembele: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC71Ne5MwB0
Klezmer:
- Adrianne Greenbaum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5XLY76TDFg
(the rare early recordings by S. Kosch are even better, joyfull and laid back at the same time, but not of very good sound quality of course)
Mourna:
- Max Cilla (Martinique): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pTHlRv_L9s
It's a wonder how universal the transverse flute is, and not only Boehm!
Cheers,
Mark

Malo Carvou for musette and swing-type tunes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uunbL0jMe5Q
J-M Veillon, as mentioned above. Must-listen for any timber flute player.
Sylvain Barou, another great Breton player. Persian, Greek, and Afghan tunes (as well as Irish and Breton) on his solo record. Lovely stuff.
