Earliest Irish flute recording?

Sounds like a Bb flute/fife? (I don't have an instrument at hand to compare the pitch)

Fascinating - a 106 year old recording. Do you think Mr. O'Byrne could have been playing a Clarke's whistle rather than a flute?.

Ha! Seems Irish flute recordings were old hat by that stage...

A glimpse at the great piccolo blog turned up this hot track from way back in 1897... that'll show those 20th Century whippersnappers!

Lovely stuff! I believe the "untitled jig" that Feagh Hugh O'Byrne is playing is Donnybrook fair. Does anybody recognize the march?

The march is a relation of the tune to O'DOnnell Abu I know there's another name on the tip of my tongue.

Seems to be in F so C band flute or sped up (as can be the case) Bb band flute.

NB probably High Pitch Bb Band Flute, so likely nearer B at CP.......

Well I have seen a few band flutes in C and in B (not Bb high pitched but marked as B).
