I am deeply saddened to hear about this. I see no sense in this loss, none whatsoever.

Tell us something.: I restore 19th century flutes, specializing in Rudall & Rose, and early American flutes. I occasionally make new flutes. Been at it for about 15 years.

Sad news, may he rest in peace.

It's little enough, I suppose, but I contacted the DJ of our local folk music radio program last night and asked him to find an appropriate flute piece to play on the air in David's honor.

He chose "Leaving Kintall", from Cathal McConnell. It sounded like a flute band.

Very, very sad. My condolences to his family. I had interactions with him here and also had two or three lengthy telephone conversations with him a few years ago.... We had very different world views (almost incomprehensible to each other), but shared a deep interest in flutery.
I believe he was an electrician by trade, and it may be (I speculate) a reflection of the depressed economy, especially of the construction industry here in GB, that he may have found it necessary to take work in so dangerous a place.
A tragedy.
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!
