An unstrangled flute!

Post by Terry McGee »

Shock, horror, I've actually found a 19th century flute that doesn't show signs of bore constriction. And several more that do.

Check it out at:

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

I hope that Terry is being ironically criticized due to his threat to leave the forum, not for the result of his research or experience.
In any case, it denotes a childish attitude by several forum members that I respected so far.

Respect! (in an Ali G accent).

I doubt that Terry comes here for accolades or reasonable debate -not anymore that is. He can get enough of that elsewhere.

It's all good information though and I'll be bearing it mind (especially as I'm measuring the bore of my little F for a new reamer).

Best regards

H

I have quietly taken a long break from it myself and many do. It's healthy and helpful to create a bit of distance, it helps avoid taking it all (and yourself) too serious.

It's usually the ones who go all in a huff and slam doors who make an arse of themselves by returning within a short time. It doesn't do much for their credibility to be honest. Hence the (I think gentle) poking of fun at the latest instalment of this behaviour.

Going back on the record here to say kudos to you Terry, in general for providing such useful reference material and specifically for your dogged perseverance in winkling out every last detail of this particular issue, from the mathematical to the practical. Nice work.
