Re: Posting clips

Re: Posting clips
I just picked this one up from a local session. Josh , I know it's on your recording, but I am slightly embarrassed to say that I spilled a drink over your cd and have yet to replace it. Hope I have not done an injustice to the tune.

Re: Posting clips
Arbo, that's a nice setting of "Luzifer's" - that's how they call it at the local session...after that one, they usually play an A major tune that goes e2A2 e2A2|efed c2A2|d2dc defg|a2e2 f2e2...don't have a name for that one though. Can be played in all the keys for a laugh...try it in B major, it's fun!
rama, that's some nice playing. The F flute makes that reel sound completely different to me...nice little rascals they are. My own F flute will be ready soon...what make is yours?
I unfortunately can't listen to your Clips, Josh, as somehow my Quicktime doesn't like to work on Windows 7. I have to figure that out some time...
Here's a raw take I recorded for a friend's solo CD - don't have a name for the tune. Playing over a click is weird...

Great playing. Were you playing this to add onto your friends solo CD? Lovely stuff.

Re: Posting clips
Thank you all!
Yes. He's a bodhran virtuoso (those people exist!) and also plays various GDAE-tuned stringed instruments. He invited about a dozen (I think) musicians to play a few tunes on his new CD, so that's what I did...the reel is supposed to come after a bodhran solo, guitar and drum tracks still to be added...gorjuswrex wrote:Were you playing this to add onto your friends solo CD?

Re: Posting clips
Hi Arbo,
just read you email; have been out a few days...
I play the Trip to Pakistan from time to time, it's not an uncommon session tune here, but not played too often. I developed my own setting with time, containing a few variations. I don't have a particular tune to go with this one. If I play it, we often do the "Steampacket reel set" (which doesn't contain "The Steampacket") - Trip to Pakistan/Da sneck o' da smaalie/The Bunny's Hat. Has been recorded by Steampacket in 2001 I think, and funnily enough, Claus Steinort plays my very Aebi Pratten flute on that CD! He sold it to me a few years later...
Your setting almost sounds like a hornpipe! Tone is awesome as usual. I somehow think your tone is barking, dark, complex, fat and sweet at the same time. That's cool.
Do I hear a slight intonation glitch in the second part's repeat at that long C natural? How do you finger C natural? I usually use the C key there, allows me to lean into the C without raising it's pitch, which would happen with OXO XXX.
Here's the same tune how I play it...haven't had enough sleep and not enough coffee yet - have been waked by the post(wo)man, so got up quickly as she should bring the new tuning slides for the next batch of flutes - no slides, just a book, but my bed broke down due to the quick get-up and now I need to repair it somehow...great start into the day!
