Danger! Exploding flute myths!!!

Post by s1m0n »

Well, according to Terry McGee, at any rate.

He's put up a page of myths about flutes and flute-playing which he thinks are worthy of detonation.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Well, granted that synthetic oils don't rot flutes, but I'd as soon not inhale chemical fumes while I'm playing, so I use almond oil. And thread is better for boxwood flutes because you can adjust it easily as the flute responds to changes in humidity. And I've got three Olwell bamboo flutes that are all in tune with themselves, despite their cylindrical bores.
