What is an Irish Flute (6) - Keys

Post by RPereira »

(in the questions that follow, I am referring to fully chromatic flutes)

1. Traditionally we have a Long upper C key operated by the RH index finger.
However, what about using a Short upper C key next to the Bb key operated by the LH thumb?

2. Traditionally we have a Short Bb key operated by the LH thumb.
However, what about using a long Bb key operated by the RH index finger?

3. Some modern makers offer the C#/C foot joints with the Boehm system instead of the traditional lever and pivot.
3.1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using the traditional and of using the Boehm foot joints?
3.2. What do you know about their ease of use?
3.3. Are they reliable?
3.4. Do they require more effort to play?
3.5. Are they fast?
3.6. Are they more or are they less noisy?
