Tell us something.: I'm mainly interested in the flute section as there seems to be hell of a lot info there about irish flutes and C19 simple system flutes.

Flute tuning question

Post by Matyas »

Hi everyone!

I've been playing side-blown woodwinds for about three months (Boehm flute and folk flutes), and I finally got a C19 simple system flute (an unmarked nach Meyer, nothing fancy).

Now I'm a little confused. It seems to play at around 415 hz with the tuning slide all the way. From what I understand it's not to common for a mach Meyer. I measured the sounding length (608 mm) (it has a C foot) and the McGee C# to D# indicator (258 mm). According to these I guess it be around more like 430 hz. I know that measurments like these can have lots of problem, but...

Is it possible that my sloppy technique causes it, or did I get a rare nach Meyer that is pitched this low?
