Yeah, that sounds like it ticks all the right boxes, Pat. Smooth, airtight and non-absorbing. And inedible. I've come across quite a few old flutes over the years where silverfish have eaten out the pads! One imagines these should have a good long life.

- Tell us something.: Upon a stirring in one’s heart, to send it forth with the breath through an instrument where you can feel it stroke fingertips as it becomes sound... is truly like having the ability to make magic.

Hi Pat,
Can I trouble you to know the type of silicone and the material of the tube wall that you set the key into that you are using? I have a lovely, new-to-me 11 key, crack-free, NACH Meyer (HP) that plays A=440HZ with good intonation and a booming low D. I’d really like to pad the keys using your method and get rid of the tack-um. Thanks in advance. ~JDL
