I would love to hear a clean recording of this tune -- all the noise on this makes my ear interpret it as just random flute-y sounds instead of a tune. :(

FWIW, Kenny, I agree with Orlaith that it's a version of Belhavel Lough, moved down into G. Joe Liddy composed most of the tunes in his 1981 collection quite a bit before it was published (going back to the 50s at least, if I remember right), so I'd think his version came first. I wouldn't be surprised if Liddy played it more major (even the published version has some G#s in it), and maybe the flute playing brothers moved it from Amaj to Gmaj as flute players do.

I'm posting this because "Danu"'s first CD is not a common recording, and this needs to be heard more - Tom Doorley's solo of "The Independence Hornpipe / Colonel Fraser" :

"The Maid Of Mount Cisco / John Naughton's" - played on flute with guitar and bodhran, by the trio "Calua". An "own-label" CD released in 1997. Playing is a bit fast for my liking, but he's playing all the notes.

That takes me back, I used to see them regularly on a Sunday night in the Victoria (pub) in Holloway Road (London), still have the LP.

Thanks
