Beautiful flute! Are you the maker? If not, who? The wood covered slide is a nice touch!

Yes, very interesting design touches. Lovely.

Jayhawk, why do you think this is a wood covered slide and not a complete rosewood tenon?

Lovely looking flute at a good price.

Best wishes,

Keith.

Keith...I guess it could be a wood tenon, but with the barrel there....I assumed it was a slide. It would be a lot of extra work to turn two tenons so close to each other.

I'd expect if either the head or the barrel had a tenon, that the receiving end (socket) would be thicker, as is the case to receive the tenons where the main joint connects.

My guess would be either it's a wood-covered slide, or not even a slide at all, just wood turned to simulate the appearance of one.

Kevin...that second idea is a definite possibility. I could see that being it...and it looks good!

I thought two holes at the bottom were supposed to be irrelevant nowadays?

Best,

Keith.

They are only irrelevant if you cut the lower joint shorter. With the theoretical faux slide, this maker may be a bit of a traditionalist and went for the long footed look? I am clearly hypothesizing here.

The whole headjoint has continuous grain - it looks to me like it's one single turned piece of wood, with neither tuning slide nor cork.

Yes, I think so too. The grain of the tenon fits in with that theory.

Best,

Keith.
