One other thing that disturbs me is the commercialization of the language.

What do you call the tomato condiment?
Ketchup, Catsup, Catchup, Katsup, Catsip, Cotsup, Kotchup, or Cornchops?

PS my spelling sucks (but my english is good ;) ), before posting I usually write things out on a word processor, and if the spell check is no help I use Google and then look for the definition of the word. Even that doesn't always work.(As in the name of this thread.)

PPS Still always got A's in english in college because of my great high school teachers. This disturbs most of the people that I know, helped through an english class, and have also read my hand written letters. :P

Ketchup is another of those words that entered the language from India or thereabouts I understand. I have a bottle of Ketjap Manis in the fridge I use in stir-frys. If you haven't tried this, you should. It's the Indonesian version of Soy sauce, but it's thicker and sweeter. Mmmmm.

I remember the English folklorist, Bert (A.L.) Llyoyd introducing a song, commenting that it contained the only known rhyme in the English language for Ketchup. Turned out to be "fetch up". Humbug!

Ketjap is originally Malaysian, as I recall. There used to be a catsup made of walnuts before catsup came to be associated solely with tomatoes. Sounds like it might be Malaise-ian.

I speldt it semi-phonetcially, I always say "em-boche-ure." I didn't even get that right! What pednatry.
Isin't it in the spirit of the thing to slightly mispell, to honor those flutemakers back in the day making Rudal and Rozes?
