Flute players who can sing
i can't really think of anyone. I find flute playing gives a singer good breath controle and stamina. Where have they all gone ?

Mark Evans of Diskan is a tidy flute player and also a good singer and guitarist/cittern/bouzouki player. I think Phil Smillie of Tannahill Weavers did/does backing vocals. Ceri Rhys Matthews (Fernhill) is another flute-playing multi-instrumentalist who can sing nicely, though he rarely does.
Personally, I'm in Jayhawk's camp. Well, almost: I don't play toots because I can't sing; when I practice I can sing in tune/carry a melody vocally, but no-one wants to hear my voice! In my youth/early folkie days, I was in a band that made a big thing of using vocal harmony: the other three all sang, I was banned from doing so. Rightly.
Anyone know any singing bagpipers? An even rarer fish, I think. Yet one could very effectively accompany oneself singing on any "cauld wind", bellows-blown bagpipe, just as hurdy-gurdy players or more "conventional" string or keyboard players can/do.

I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

i can sing
actually it's a bit sad that my favourite instument, the one that i decided to learn, is the flute, because i can't sing while playing... its also annoying that i cant even answer to people without stopping the tune... in the future i might learn the uilleann pipes as well, it would be my little revenge

- Tell us something.: I am a flute player. I play ITM pretty much exclusively. Like to browse and occasionally post on flute related discussions

You're certainly not alone. Growing up, I fell in with a bunch of friends who were big trad/folk ballad fans. Everyone could sing to some degree…except for me. One of the boys actually gave me my first whistle in the hopes that it would keep me from singing! It worked, much to everyone’s relief.Personally, play flute because I can't sing...maybe I'm not alone in this?
