McGoldrick?
I know I am screwing up his name which is why I got nowhere on a google search. Last night on public radio I heard 3 tunes by him off a new album that just blew me away. I must have that cd. Could somebody less spelling challenged help me to find it?
Take care

Actually you are spelling him right, if you mean this guy:

If I'm not mistaken the newest album is "Wired", and amazon.com says it's not yet released, which seems wrong to me:

cheers,

His latest is Wired. It has been released. You can dowload it from Trad tunes. He is one of the hottest players right now. He has played with everyone who is anyone. Lunasa, capercelli, flook, kate rusby ect ect. Brilliant

I then came home, and went whistling all over the house, much pleased with my whistle, but disturbing all the family.

Thanks Sonja, that is indeed the name of the album. Incredable flute playing. Some may not like it because of all the modern electrified music but holy smokes that guy can play the flute. There was one cut where he plays conterpoint to a trumpet or coranet or some brass instrument and man oh man it was just unreal.
Anyway, thanks again, and
Take care

I believe my fave McGoldrick track is "Colonel Frazer" off the 1st Lunasa album - I love the duet between flute and pipes (But I like Jerry O'Sullivan's version as well - mmmm mmmmm regulators!) I have "At First Light" too but don't listen to it all that much. . .Blackbeer wrote:Thanks Sonja, that is indeed the name of the album. Incredable flute playing. I can take or leave the "funky" stuff, but one of the best gigs I ever attended was just McGoldrick, Dezi Donnelly and Tim Edey. Very traditional, although with plenty of the tunes going off at a tangent! His tone is beautiful (I think he was still on a Lehart at the time - now a Grinter, I believe).Blackbeer wrote:Some may not like it because of all the modern electrified music but holy smokes that guy can play the flute.
I also saw him with John McSherry, promoting the At First Light album - another top 5 gig in my opinion.
I haven't heard Wired yet, but I see it has had some pretty good reviews.
Some mornings, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps.

Yes, the new compositions leave me cold, just technical doodlings up and down. I'd like to hear Mike playing some traditional stuff though, he can certainly play the flute.

I didn't realize he plays with the flute to the left.
I've been enjoying it all! Thanks for the links!
