In the interests of transparency I feel I should make it clear I’m not a flautist but am in need of advice from an informed community. In clearing my late in-laws’ house in the UK I’ve come across a vintage flute. It’s a Ruddel & Rose Flute #4491 which the internet tells me was made in 1841. It’s boxed and in generally good condition but has a longitudinal split in the top piece (head piece) and there appears to be a plate missing where the mouthpiece should be.
Cursory searches on the internet indicate it has some value,, Can you advise please of any valuers/purchasers who may be able to help or any competent restorers of vintage instruments in the UK. Given the provenance of the flute, I’m keen to get it back into the community where it will be appreciated, but obviously at an appropriate value.
Thanks in anticipation.
Mike

Yes, Rudall & Rose flutes usually have some value when restored.
Without seeing it, it would be hard to estimate repairs needed or value before restoration.
Try Jem Hammond in Wales. (see Facebook)

You can reach Jem Hammond on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/jemtheflute
One picture gallery example of his restorations can be seen at

That serial number #4491 is also not yet on Thomas Johnson's Rudall Register. I'm sure he'd like details.

Oops, I guess we'll all late with the info. That flute #4491 was supposedly sold on eBay on Sept. 5:
