OK, I'll start the selling price B-I-N-G-O with a guestimate of 1755 GBP ($2775).

Ah Shucks and here I had hoped it would slip by without anyone's notice and my wee GBP 150.00 would win it. :P

Good example of real Cocuswood! :D

Price has already shot up over $1,200, still 6 days to go...

Aanvil are you referring to the auction sniping well known and loved for over 15 years by ebays hundreds of millions of users, or the dictionary version of "to direct an attack (at someone) in a sly or underhanded way"

Wasnt clear which you had are yer mind there since of course everyone here knows about auction sniping :poke:

I doubt it. Believe it or not, not everyone, even here, buys on eBay.

Auction sniping is the sort of thing only the experienced and avid eBay shopper would keep in mind. I don't shop eBay - can't be arsed - but I suppose that if I did, I'm quite sure that in my inexperience I'd be sniped out of the water.

Which raises a point for me: sniping's no reliable good if everyone's a marksman. Isn't the strategy to gull the unguarded, and then *blam*?

Can be quite funny if two or more go for the 'nuclear snipe', though!

So how might that unfold? Does the analogy of two bullets hitting each other head-on lend any meaning?

We both really want a whistle that's worth (say) £10, but are afraid of someone else sniping at (say) £15 when we'd quite happily pay £20 just to make sure. But why stop at £20 when someone might just bid £20.25? So you bid £210 and I bid £220 with neither of us really expecting the inevitable, then BAM! :o
