Re: Cruinniú na bhFliúit 2011
When I went to the 1st one in 2006 (good memories!) I flew Liverpool-Shannon, got a hire car and drove down. Lovely drive!
Sigmund, the answer to your Q is 'no', I'm pretty sure. That would be too ridiculously good a bargain!

I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

I will do that, hiring a car in Shannon and driving down to Ballyvourneyjemtheflute wrote: I flew Liverpool-Shannon, got a hire car and drove down. Lovely drive!

And accomodation is indeed not included in the fee.

Re: Cruinniú na bhFliúit 2011
This will be my first time attending the Cruinniu. Can someone tell me where most of the attendees stay? Grateful for all suggestions and comments.
FYI... flying from NYC, the cheapest flight to Cork is KLM via Amsterdam. Go figure!

Hi Linda,
check out this site: http://flutemeet.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
It is from last year, but they said on facebook that the basic format would be the same this year..
I am staying at Abbey Hotel, probably the cheapest option (35euro/day).

See you in Cork!

Abbey hotel gives you a few minutes extra in bed before stumbling into class, the Mills Hotel allows you to fall into bed after a late session (about 5 minutes walk between the two).

Re: Cruinniú na bhFliúit 2011
Looking forward to this next week. One wee consideration - is this the sort of event where it would be worth lugging the SSP along to (as well as the flutes and whistles of course...)? Not that I'm particularly good on the SSP or know huge numbers of tunes, but it would be a pity to take them and have them never leave the B&B. And maybe someone can give me some useful hints on how to play them a bit better? This is a flute event and the SSP is definitely a "second" instrument for me, so leaving them at home would be ok too...

Why would anyone want to bring the Scottish Socialist Party to Ballyvourney ? ![smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile_144.gif)
I assume you mean "Scottish Small Pipes", Chris - if I've misunderstood that, please ignore this post. As someone who's been at the Cruinniu twice - but not this time, unfortunately - my honest advice is leave them at home. Concentrate on the flute - that's what the event is for, and I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Re: Cruinniú na bhFliúit 2011
It was my first time at the flute meeting and I'm sure that I'll do my best to come back next year, there are so many good and nice players here !
Classes were very good, thanks again to Hammy and Conal for this event, thanks to other teachers, Tara, Aoife, John !
It was nice to meet so many players from such different countries and to share music, to play other flutes too. (Sigmund, Mark, Chris, Larry, Matt, Shane, Peter...)
And last but not least, the weather was so beautiful !

Re: Cruinniú na bhFliúit 2011
another battle report from a first timer.
It was a supurb weekend, though i only got 2/3 of the days as i was called back into work on the friday. The low cap on numbers keeps things agreeably intimate. God willing ill be back next year, sans work phone
highlights: being told that i was more or less in tune
low-lights: the cold realization that i am a terrible fluter.
now i have a blackberry full of tunes to learn. woop woop.

Re: Cruinniú na bhFliúit 2011
Great Fun. Hard work on the old liver and I was a bit shaken on the Saturday evening due to almost driving off the road in the afternoon when a tyre burst... Still all's well that ends well.
Now I just need to explain to everyone why I am going around going "Guh! Guh! Guh!..." very fast...
Also nice to put a few faces to C&F names![smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile_144.gif)
