I have been considering purchasing a 5-string electric fiddle.
Does anyone have any advice? Is it just a shiny new distraction or has it helped to expand your playing?
Does the 5-string have a home in ITM?

Re: 5 string fiddle
I've only seen one walk in the door in my 30 years of sessioning. That was brought by a old time, folk guy who dabbled in ITM, he dropped in once or twice 10 years ago. He sat next to me and I don't actually remember hearing anything on the C string. On the other hand if you enjoy those notes for other things and the fiddle sounds good to your ear, why not. There isn't a lot of chording or chopping in ITM so that lower string doesn't seem to have much of a place if it doesn't fit the melody line. Though it could come in handy if you were accompanying a singer.
