Bill Verdier Irish Music Scholarship--accepting applications!

Post by Bill Wolfe »

The first annual Bill Verdier Irish Music Scholarship https://billverdierscholarship.org/ is accepting applications! The first year’s award will be US$1000 to help cover travel, lodging, and tuition at the Willie Clancy Summer School, July 1-9, 2023. https://www.scoilsamhraidhwillieclancy.com/

Bill Verdier (1958-2022) was a pillar of the Irish traditional music scene in Nashville for almost 30 years. He was a lovely fiddler with a great store of tunes, stories, and lore, and his loss leaves an unfillable void for all of us who knew and loved him. To honor Bill’s commitment to spreading the ITM gospel among young players in Tennessee and neighboring states, the first year’s will award support a young (18-25 as of July 2023) fiddle student living in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, or Kentucky. If anyone knows an eligible musician who might be on the fence about going to Willie Week, please encourage them to apply! Eligibility, award amount, and supported activities may vary in future years.

Even if you don’t personally know an eligible student, please spread the word!
