That's fascinating. I was taught when I was younger that at full speed, a cheetah never has two feet on the ground at once. Based on this footage, it looks as though the back two are, which makes perfect sense, as that's where the power comes from. The front paws are just allowing it to glide till the next time the back is in action (which is something like 80 feet from the previous pace).
When I saw the title of the thread I thought it was probably referring to them being on the edge of extinction.

Almost kangaroo-like, the way the back legs work. I liked seeing the camera track set-up at the end.
Also had to wonder: What was that thing those kitties were feeling compelled to chase? Was it a decoy?

I wondered the same thing.
It was visible towards the end: a black thingy being pulled by a cord. I'm guessing a black cotton fabric bolus rubbed against critter meat. Especially after the camera track setup was shown, it reminded me of one of the "Too Cute" episodes where puppies are exercised with toys pulled along a track. The explanation given was that it gave them (the puppies) a chance to engage and exercise their "chase" instincts.

Truly, it was breathtaking: all that glorious, coordinated motion, with the head rock-steady and the eyes in total focus !

1) Peak speeds: 70mph, for ~1/4mi bursts. (ZOOM!)
2) 0-60mph in 3 seconds. (HOLY CRAP !)
