RIP Kate McGarrigle

Post by s1m0n »

I didn't even know she was ill.

Montreal folk singer and songwriter Kate McGarrigle has died.

The folk singer, famous for her collaboration with her sister Anna, was 63 and had been battling clear-cell carcinoma.

She died at home in Montreal surrounded by family members, her brother-in-law Dane Lanken said.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Most Canadians of adult age who grew up in Canada and watched CBC would be warmed by this tribute to Kate:

I've just heard this sad news.

A unique talent who will be sadly missed by many.
May she rest in Peace.

And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.
