Want some chips with that Twinkie?™

Post by emmline »

These were my chips, and I ate them because I was pretty sure they would still be fresh.
It may be hard to read this part, but amazingly they have no preservatives.

Oh, I read that date, like, 20 times
trying to figure out what the deal
was and still missed it. Now I get it.
Yeah, that would be good in a bomb
shelter.

Sometimes I notice that things aren't really as . . . fresh . . . when they're that close to the date.

Miss Vicki's chips are often a little stale within a month or two of it. How were those?

Yeah, I come across chips/crisps like that from time to time.

"Still as fresh as ever they were!" :(

Yes Lamby, that would have been a concern if I planned to eat them in June 3009, but I may not live that long,
even with a diet carefully full of antioxidants.

Actually, what I think this really reveals is the weird way my mind works. Notice that lots of people automatically read that date as July 30, '09, whereas I looked at it and thought wtfizz? What a silly misprint! Only after I shared it with one of the girls did I catch on that it did not mean to say 3009. Yes, I kind of have trouble with reality that way, sometimes.

most bagged chips are slated to have a shelf life of 6 weeks (although if packed under nitrogen can probably go 3 months). Pringles shelf life is 18 months. But there's always the chance of a bag or can being a "leaker" and it will go rancid in a lot less time - usually 2 weeks, faster if there's a lot of heat or light around.

I suspect the fact that they're less than 50% potato aids their longevity:

So, I am to assume that you haven't developed any odd side effects from eating them, like, say, a second head or bats wings?

Thank you no. My one head is inadequate enough.
OTOH, we do have at our house (to no one's great surprise) discussions about what would be the best type of wings to have, and I have always opted for bat. But I don't have any.
