As I mentioned here,
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=69196&p=907244#p907244
The kid has started taking bass guitar lessons.
We're now in search of great bass lines !!
that are very easy but still sound cool.
edited to take it down a notch

So nothing to do with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) then?

Re: ISO great bass lines suitable for newb
Thank you all for the suggestions!
I will collect these and put these aside for, uh, inspiration
You need to dumb it down. We're talking "Smoke on the Water" type stuff here.
There is a very cool repeating bassline in one of Mike Oldfield's things. (Not the theme from the Exorcist.) Might be Tubular Bells. I can't seem to find it.
One he likes now is Linkin Park "The End" because it's got an endlessly repeated, what you call it, not obligato but there's a special term, arrgh!! Memory not working today.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP-bAlOJzWc
Anyway, this repeated part is on the piano, but he likes to play it on the bass. There's only a couple of places where you switch over to straight bass under the chord. Great bang for your buck.
