New Year Goals

Post by chrisoff »

I don't really give myself any new year resolutions, as I don't imagine anything I'm going to give up at midnight while heavily inebriated is likely to last. However I do like to set myself some goals for the year.

Next year I'd like to achieve the following:

Green Belt (ITF Taekwondo), just got my yellow so this should be easy as long as I keep going to class.

Play a solo acoustic gig. This will actual involve a couple of things, not least writing some lyrics and seeing if I can actually sing.

Learn the piano. Got a keyboard 2 years ago, still can't play anything on it. Must try harder.

Pay off my credit card. Means stop buying stuff with the stupid thing!

Anyone else setting any personal goals this year?

Here are a few, not specifically for New Years, but stuff I'm working on now anyway:

1. increase my exercise routine from three times a week to daily;

2. continue work on my writing project and try to update it at least weekly;

3. try to increase my proficiency in sed and awk

Double my playable tune list. (well, at least half again)
Get the dry wall up in the studio so I can move my work out to the new building ("new", HAH! it's a good 5 years done on the outside)
Lose 15 lbs.
Stay well.

I find myself wanting to concentrate on Irish flute, which I've largely abandoned in favor of the baroque flute. So my first goal is to learn the secret of reels, both how to play them and why ITM musicians like them so much. Going along with this, I want to learn most of the tunes that Mike Rafferty has recorded that are in Lesl's tune book.

Run another marathon.

Begin making conical flutes.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Learn all the tunes in Jean-Pierre Yvert's Tutor for Willowflute. Twelve down, thirteen to go.

Learn all the tunes in Trinity School of Music's Grade 3 Practical for Guitar. Eight down, two to go.

Find some way to entirely sabotage the National Register for Social Housing, even if it means going back to HAR 10s. I was relying on it crumbling under its own weight of data, but that hasn't happened yet. :twisted:

Paint the livingroom. We bought this house 11 years ago and I didn't like the color then. We almost have a color selected.

1-take granddaughter to the beach-the real beach, not the facsimile she visited in Delaware last summer.
2- buy my mom a hearing aid
3- keep practicing on oboe and perhaps get a bit better on the thing
4-begin to learn to make reeds for #3
5- figure out how to communicate with new priest
6- endure work-this year we get the horror of a 4 week mail count.
and mainly just survive in peace and calm....I know that one ain't gonna happen but I can hope..
