His NIMROD rating (Non-Irish Music Related, Off-topic Discussion coefficient) is only .17, which indicates he has been spending most of his time in the forums that actually deal with music, poor benighted lad.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that I despise it when people use "anniversary" like this. The word is derived from annus, meaning year. So "one-month anniversary" is inherently oxymoronic.

I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm making an annus out of myself. Or maybe that it's me who's being an oxymoron.

"Lunaversary"? "Monaversary"?
At the end of it all, I want to be told "Well done". I don't want to _be_ well done!

The usage wonks are curiously silent on this one. Go to Bartleby, for example, and search on "anniversary"; the only usage entry you will find is an one from the Columbia Guide to Standard American English, which states
An anniversary is the same date exactly one or more years later. The usage problem has arisen because anniversary is sometimes used Informally to mark other occasions, as in our first week’s “anniversary” or our three-month “anniversary.” There is no harm in this extended sense, as long as it stays in the Conversational levels and Informal writing. Note that even in this written use, the word is placed within quotation marks to indicate its special status.
Everyone else -- Strunk, Fowler, Am. Heritage, Modern Usage, et. al. -- avoids the topic.

I would send you butt pliers but I would need to give myself some, too, as this usage does make me shiver -- just a little. Perhaps you could do as I do: Take a deep breath and tell yourself that this is English, not Latin, and in English, words mean what we decide they mean. And since no acceptable substitute has come forward to describe a non-annual but nonetheless recurring moment of celebration, anniversary has stepped in to fill the void.

We users of English are fortunate in that we ultimately define our vocabulary by force of numbers and not by legislative fiat, as do the French. That is not to say, however, that bad usage should not be resisted as long as possible; it merely means that change is inevitable, and in the case of anniversary, that change is upon us.

I used to hate hopefully, too, but as I approach my dotage, I have grown to accept it.
