Ronald Hutton in "Stations of the Sun" says the concept of Samhain bringing on a New Year is a recent invention and doesn't jibe with ancient Celtic custom.

Of course I only read this on Wikipedia and not in the book so ignore me.

Does this mean I can celebrate with Bacchanalian Frenzy?
