- Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free - Location: Loren has left the building.
Love it. Looks like the snare line pulls out just about every Drum Corps trick in the book.
One thing puzzles me though: The video says they were secret until a few years ago, but how the heck do you keep a drum corps "secret"??? (if you've ever heard DC's practice, you know what I mean)
Giant Cone Of Silence?????

Seems they've already got the next generation in training: http://www.ezprezzo.com/videoclips/4_ye ... ummer.html

Way more clips of these guys on YouTube. Seems they've been taking Europe by storm. (Warning: for addicts only!)

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

Ignorance is bliss, they say. This stuff has been around for countless years. I don't know about the other forces, but in naval circles it was called "monkey drill". I wasn't in gun squad, so I never got to participate, but I got to see a team of about twenty POs go through one of these routines and it was awesome. As Loren notes, these Swiss guys seem to know every trick in the book and have put it to expert use. Great show!Uilliam wrote:Reminds me very much of Riverdance. Not impressed.

I can understand those who don't get it or appreciate it. It helps to see and hear in person, as opposed to watching something with editing cuts to different angles etc. because all of this stuff is choreographed specifically to be seen from from a distance and at certain angles. And the sound doesn't hit you in the gut like being there live.
One thing I didn't see in that clip, that hurts the performance was humor - typically the Drum Corps that I enjoy the most inject a healthy dose of humor, but that's more of a DCI thing, than standard international style Drum Corps. Still, too much seriousness makes for a bit of a unidimensional performance, no matter how technically proficient.

The circle closes as far as I can see. Duthart brought Swiss rudements to pipeband drumming and now American DCI has come to the Swiss.
My daughter was doing this kind of show with her drum corp almost 10 years ago.

Put the music under thier feet and lift them to the dance.

Exactly how? Sorry dude, but that is a very weak comparrison, I mean, not once does Michael Flatley make an appearence... and no synthesizers either. And I certainly do not hear fiddle, pipes, guitar, bass or castanets anywhere in these drills.Uilliam wrote:Reminds me very much of Riverdance. Not impressed.
