-Sad to hear of his passing. I had heard of him but never listened until a chance broadcast of Texas Tornadoes music some fourteen years ago. What a voice! I'll be sadder still if Flaco Jimenez checks out.

A huge influence on things that matter.

May he rest in peace.

If you have to ask who he was...... :-?

Slan,
D.
And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

Slan,
D.

I wasn't aware he was influencial. I remember him as a country singer of the 70's with a couple hits.
I'm no longer trying a new posting paradigm

His best music was swamp pop, ie, roughly, electrified Cajun and black Louisiana music. He spent his formative years in Southern Louisiana, but swamp pop was a big influence on Tex-Mex bands generally. Fender lived amongst it for a while, but for the rest of them, it comes from just over the state border anyway.

His death is very sad.

What a waste.
