Anybody here listen to Rufus Wainright?

My reply to Brigitte about "11:11" made me wonder how many people here listen to him?

I love his track from the first Shrek soundtrack. It's called Hallelujah.

I will look for that in the library.

I don't really like him that much. All his songs sound the same to me.

That's the great Leonard Cohen song, of course, which may be my favorite song EVER.

I only remember seeing him once when he teamed with the McGarricles and their families on Foster's Hard Times and Better Days are Coming on Ken Burns' Songs of the Civil War video.

I didn't know who he ws and wondered why he was there. His voice seemed rather monotonal and put me in mind of the drones on a bagpipe.

The best version of the song "Hallelujah" is the KD Lang’s live version, it is simply heartbreaking.

If you like Rufus, check out his lesser known sister Martha.

I've never heard that version by KD Lang before*, but even still I know I will love it. KD Lang is one artist who has such a command of her instrument (her voice) and such unadulterated force and emotional power, that I can say without listening to any certain song/piece that I will probably like it. She does everything so well. It's a pity that most people know her for "Constant Craving" because she has done so so much more.

Her live version of "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray" makes my heart stop each time I hear it. Her voice sounds like a saxophone or something, not a voice. She does that song so well that I keep asking myself, "Can you believe this is live?" and I keep answering "No, I really can't" but I know it's live because I watched her sing it. It's really amazing.

When asked my favorite song I usually can't pick, but if I do pick one, it is that one. Out of hundreds and hundreds (or thousands and thousands) of songs I've listened to in my life, that one is one of the very best, in my opinion.

*edit: I just heard the clip. I'm buying that CD as soon as I'm able.

I must apologize, there seems to be more then one recording of KD Lang singing that song live. The one which I’m referring to is her live performance at the 2005 Juno Awards

and the right Sample:
