Who is the millionaire?

Post by Doug_Tipple »

Is there any doubt who the millionaire is? My question is that if he is going to hire a personal photographer, then why doesn't he insist on a better camera? I mean, just look at this photo. Another thought is that his personal photographer probably looks like his current partner, so competence isn't a major factor in his decision making.

Someone said a long time ago, "When we see Tom Cruise in a movie with a 300-lb woman as his love interest, then we'll know we've got equality."

What, Jack Black under a spell ain't good enough?

An aside: Why is Tom Cruise popular? He can't act, he's insane, and (according to my wife) he ain't that good lookin'. Why do people like his movies?
Giles: "We few, we happy few."
Spike: "We band of buggered."

He got famous in Risky Business and that was enough to set him up for good. Costner is another such living miracle.
How do you prepare for the end of the world?

They prove that, given enough movies to do, even a monkey can come up with a good one now and then.

I was just having this conversation with someone last night, and I used KC as my example: He plays exactly the same character in every movie (think about it). "Actors" like that, in our conversation, we contrasted with so-called "character actors" who really *become* the character they are playing in the movie - for themselves and the viewer. Two spectacular actors who fit this bill IMHO are Anthony Hopkins and Johnny Depp.
Offhand, I can't think of a female actor who is as much of a convincing "character actor". Anyone??

Johnny Depp only seems to work with Tim Burton, so I wonder how
much of that is Depp, and how much Burton...

What about Pirates of the Carribean?

Also, another great character actor (was in Pirates as well) is Geoffrey Rush.

Still looking for a comparable female actor ...

I just realized that the problem with this picture is probably a result of
the file encoding when it was resized, not with the camera itself.

The original question posed was "Who is the millionaire?"

And the answer to that question (based on the photo) is:

"SHE is. Right after the divorce is finalized."

I don't think of those actors when I hear 'character actor' as a phrase. To me the phrase means someone who plays a very stylised role so that they become known for that particular kind of role: Mae West as the vamp, James Cagney as the hard talking thug, Pat Morito (sp?) as the wise Oriental teacher. . .of these, I consider Cher and Andie MacDowell (sp?) to be a character actresses. When you hear they are playing a role you have some sense of the character that they play.

I consider Johnny Depp and Anthony Hopkins, and particularly Robert DeNiro to be method actors. So would Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, Maggie Smith and Judith Dench to name just a few.

I thought this was called "typecast".
e.g., "Christopher Walken is very talented, but has been typecast as
a creepy villian."

EDIT: Wikipedia agrees with you:
A character actor is an actor who predominantly performs
supporting parts, often in similar roles throughout the course of a
career. While some actors aspire to leading man or leading lady
status, many notable actors have had enduring careers in less
prominent, but important and memorable character parts.
Character roles run the gamut from bit parts to secondary leads.

Method acting is an acting technique in which actors try to replicate
the emotional conditions under which the character operates in real
life, in an effort to process an acting role. "The Method" requires an
actor to draw on his or her own emotions, memories, and
experiences to influence their portrayal of a character.
