For Canadians: Belinda Stronach?!?
So...Belinda...hmm...
Is it a case of Episode III - Anakin goes over to the Dark Side - or Episode VI - Darth Vader final sees the error of his ways and abandons the Dark Side?

I see the expression on her face, and I cannot help thinking... 'hidden agenda'. Of course, I usually see that in everyone's expressions. But, hers is a pleasant face all the same.

I think that I should put at least half a cent here, (not a full 2 cents, just half, cause I dont want ya all to feel that you overpaid!) cause I have lived in Canada and hope to do so again one day.
I can remember thinking "what a change, hopefully for the better" when Cretien (sp? i cant bloody remember) was out and Paul was in...
I wonder if this change would be good.......
I hope so. I get made fun of a lot for being a relatively middle of the road American and being so in love with B.C., but I really care about what happens in Canada, even though I am not a resident anymore.

HAHAHA! Now Peter gets to feel what David Orchard felt like, after Peter gave him the shaft.OnTheMoor wrote:Nuts to you, MacKay is the best man in that house.StevieJ wrote:That's the only thing that makes me laugh about the whole affair. Peter can't catch a break because he is a remarkably stupid politician. If he'd held out and preserved the conservative party, he'd be the PM today. Instead, he went and merged with a party that half to two-thirds of Canada would rather be robbed blind than ever vote for. The reform/alliance are sheer political rat-poison, and Peter went and drank it. Voluntarily. After having given his word.
And now the (unlikely) tory coalition is collapsing.
Steve Harper must be livid--last week probably represented his only real chance to become PM; it's going to be all downhill from here.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

You kidding!? the way Bush and others are driving our economy into the ground?? it may not be long before the Canadian dollar is .90 of $1UD. If things go from bad to worse the next election, the Canadian dollar may equal or eclipse the USD.PJ wrote:Half a US cent is probably worth 2 Canadian cents, or it will be shortly.Tyler Morris wrote:I think that I should put at least half a cent here, (not a full 2 cents, just half, cause I dont want ya all to feel that you overpaid!) ....
I used to pay very close attention to the exchange rate when I lived in BC, because my major savings was still in an American bank. I would wait for a time when the exchange rate would profit me best, but shortly before I moved back to the US, the rate seemed to creep closer to equalization. I dont keep track of it much anymore, no need to, but I was observing a collegue of mine do some Forex trading, and observed that the Canadian dollar was near 75 cents US at the time. Things may have changed since, but the way we keep screwing things up, its no small miracle that we havent been bought out by Wal-Mart or something.

The PCs win a government with the Alliance splitting the votes? Now that's worth a laugh. Peter MacKay put aside his personal ambition and did what was best for the country, he created an alternative to the Liberals, you won't convince me otherwise, especially since I'm sure all your arguments involve 'hidden agendas' and Harper's 'scariness'. At least you admit that you enjoy being robbed blind.s1m0n wrote:HAHAHA! Moor, surely you're not suggesting the PCs would be any better? The Grits got caught in the act, is all. Can you not remember the Mulroney era that left us billions in debt? Not a small portion of that went into pork-barrelling that would make the Liberals look like amateurs. I'm sure there's a lot of people who would like to punish Chrétien, but lets face it, he's gone. Martin's gang are trying to clean up the mess, but like any empire, it takes a while for it to die off.
If you take it that they are all politicians, and that all politicians are corrupt, or on the verge of corruption (viz Stronach), then it becomes a question of "who will cause the least amount of damage during their tenure". I'm not happy with the Grits, but there doesn't seem to be any alternative choice that doesn't scare hell out of me. Surely we don't need a Bush-type conservancy in office!

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.
