Ten days and counting. I'll provide the e-Champagne.

It's an existential question - perfect for the Pub. Much as I would prefer to include C&F's previous existence in the physically accessible timeline, my understanding is that all record of it has been lost (although I'm not completely convinced that a highly motivated geek couldn't come up with at least something). So until we can reconnect to it in black and white, I have to be satisfied that the previous (one could say primordial) seed-C&F, which transformed into this, must be couched in Board lore and mythos. For that reason I think its memory should always be kept and acknowledged (strictly speaking, I can never actually remember it, for like so many of us, I was never there). So the tale gets told around the fire: "Once upon a time, long, long ago..."

Greetings,
Chiff & Fipple is an e-mail newsletter which accompanies the Chiff &
Fipple website, formerly "the Tinwhistle Table." As
of this date (1/15/98) there are about 800 subscribers. I send it out
with maddening irregularity, somewhere between every 3 days and every 2
weeks, depending on how well my medications are working. The newsletter is
engaged in: (1) forwarding out to the group the most interesting e-mail I
get, (2) advising the group by e-mail regarding any really hot tinwhistle
news, and (3)advising the group by e-mail just prior to the arrival of the
"Crystal People" who will be coming soon in spaceships to feed us special
"food". We do welcome you to our band of subscribers. Here are a few
items of information for you:
1. The newsletter comes out roughly once a week, usually on the
weekends. It is composed of "news" regarding the availability of
various tinwhistles, and similar items, that I gather. I also publish a
lot of reviews of whistles, some which I have written, some which
subscribers have sent. I also publish a lot of e-mail from
subscribers. You should feel free to submit items and I hope you
will. Readers appreciate informative items (reviews, whistle-
sightings, etc.) but there is also a lot of humor in the newsletter.
So, feel free to be creative. I publish the majority of e-mails sent to
me, but I obviously have to reserve the right to pass on an item, or to
edit it. Unless you specify, I will include your e-mail address. Also, I
usually try to remember to get permission to publish something. However,
if you send me something related to whistles, and you don't specifically
indicate that it is not for publication, you might want to assume it could
end up in the
newsletter. You can pretty much rely on my judgement in this matter.
I've only had one person mad at me in 2 years for publishing something
they wish I hadn't.
2. Most of the time, the newsletter will be delivered to you via a
mailing list service called ListBot (www.listbot.com). When the
system is down, or under other special circumstances, I'll send the
e-mail out directly myself. Due to the size of the mailing list--this is
a buggy process. Recently, I somehow managed to send out 3
copies of one newsletter. I blame myself for that. I apologize in
advance.
3. I welcome questions from beginners or anybody else. I try to
answer all of them and generally do. Particularly interesting Q & A
will be published in the newsletter.
4. I encourage a relaxed and open-minded atmosphere. This is,
after all, the lowly Irish tinwhistle we're talking about here. We ain't
building rocket ships.
5. It is a source of considerable pride that I get very few
"unsubscribe" requests. I can unsubscribe you, but it is
better if you do it by sending an email to
ChiffFipple-unsubscribe@listbot.com
6. You can view the archives, about 75 issues or so, at www.listbot.com.
7. If you are new to the list, read:
http://www.chiffandfipple.com/faq.html
If you are new to tinwhistles read the above file and:
http://www.chiffandfipple.com/tutorial.html
8. Finally: I do realize that there is an educational function of the
newsletter and I make every effort to help people with their
tinwhistle-related questions. However much of the newsletter is intended
for fun and fellowship and we stray into all kinds of topics. This may
not be your cup of tea. If not....this is why we have the miracle of

Notes in Comparative Entomology and Whistle Output: The Susato D and Two Arthopods
By Prof. Casey O'Rourke

This paper examines and compares the fight-or-flight reaction of the common
