Challenger remembrance

Post by daveboling »

Thirty five years ago today, Shuttle mission STS-51L, flown by Challenger was lost will all hands. I was a very young engineer at the Marshall Space Flight Center working on NASA's SpaceLab project, and had briefly worked with one of the Challenger mission specialists. We miss them all.

I teleported home one night
With Ron and Sid and Meg.
Ron stole Meggie's heart away
And I got Sidney's leg.

At the time of the Challenger disaster I was working at Rockwell.

On launch days, TV's were set up in our offices so we could watch.

When the disaster took place we were crushed. It was very hard to go back to work.

It took outsider Richard Feynman to get the truth out.

Truly, a tragedy for America.

Another tragedy: those responsible were never held accountable.

Another tragedy: the Morton-Thiokol engineer who tried to explain it all suffered terribly.
