Thanks Izz, for reminding me of one of the few things I miss about Ohio...the Polish!

IMHO, Gnocci is best served tossed with a little garlic, butter and a good smothering of bread crumbs.

YUMMY!!!

I hear they have 'em at Taco Bell, too; they're called "ñocchi". Served with ranchero sauce, and you can get extra plasticheese, too. Sage is for the effete.

...and so does Alton Brown. All discussions of cooking must ultimately come back to Alton Brown; it's destiny.

I find his nose very disturbing. But I seem to learn a lot from him, then forget it the minute I change the channel...

And I agree about the over-saucing thing. Gnocchi is delicious mostly unadorned.
How do you prepare for the end of the world?

Gnocchi are. But I don't suppose many of you say "them" when referring to spaghetti, as my mother did.

Pet hates in the massacring of Italian by English speakers: people who say "brooshetta" and "would you like a biscotti with your laahtay?"

I've never had gnocci but I've had strozzapreti.

SteviejHow should you say "laaatay" then?

We should probably stop mentioning the Food Network because it will spawn the inevitable picture of....her.

As an Italian would, of course :) Try making the "a" short, putting no diphthong in the "e", and allowing the tiniest almost imperceptible lingering before you pronounce the "t" sound, similar to the transition in jigs from the first to the second eighth note in a group of three :)

I'll have to hear an Italian say it so I do it right. I don't drink them however so it probably doesn't matter.

her?

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.
