I hate the cold
Re: I hate the cold
It's 32.5 here. I have to drive home in this. I worry that my car won't start. What if the seats freeze? All I have is a sweater.

Re: I hate the cold
A weatherman on the local evening news said our low of 31 last night was warmer than the low in many places in Florida.Lambchop wrote:It's 32.5 here. I have to drive home in this. I worry that my car won't start. What if the seats freeze? All I have is a sweater.

Yes, it was. While it was 42 here on the beach this morning, it was 32 by the time I got to work.
If everything else wasn't enough, now we have sinkholes opening all over due to the farmers having drained the aquifer spraying water on their crops to keep them from freezing. See the news of this latest DISASTER.
So, what else could happen, you ask? FISH KILLS. Dead fish are everywhere, or at least will be as soon as it warms up again and they start floating.
At least one nice man was reviving chameleons with a blow-dryer.

Good. Chameleons are a force for good in the universe.Lambchop wrote: At least one nice man was reviving chameleons with a blow-dryer.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Re: I hate the cold
There's nothing like driving in 13 degrees with the window down all day- that nice brisk breeze blowing in my face all day. I've done it for too many days and the weather man tells me we might really get above freezing tomorrow for a high! It can't come soon enough. I'm sick of battling this snow all day long that has been on the ground/roads since Dec. 18. Heck, they haven't had school here since then either. The kids are loving that.

Re: I hate the cold
Maybe this will make you feel warmer by comparison:
Things have improved this evening: it has warmed up to -31 F (yes, that's 31 degrees BELOW zero Fahrenheit) now, and the wind advisory has been canceled. Predicted overnight lows for tonight are 35 to 45 below; predicted highs for tomorrow are 20 to 35 below zero.
This counts as cold even here in the frozen North, but it isn't anywhere near record-breaking. It's a pretty typical January cold snap. It's kind of interesting living in a place where the difference between the record low and record high temps for the same day is about 100 degrees F in the coldest part of the winter: from about -60 F to about +40 F. The one good thing I can say about deep cold is that when it warms up to -10 F it will feel delightful. It's funny how -10 F feels so cold in October and so warm in January.
Typically when it gets really cold here, it warms up in the Lower 48, so maybe some relief is on your way.

Re: I hate the cold
We've had a thaw the last few days. There's still some snow on the ground, especially inland. But it's a lot milder and the rain is helping to get rid of it.
I hate rain though, bring back the snow anyday.

Finally warmed up to a low of around 14F here, and the temperature seemed so easy and gentle that I wore my jacket open, wondering why I felt so frickin' COLD.HDSarah wrote:The one good thing I can say about deep cold is that when it warms up to -10 F it will feel delightful.
