The Nadir of Filmmaking

Post by fearfaoin »

"Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus", from MTV films. Straight to video.
It looks like "Snakes on a Plane" mated with "Aliens vs. Predator".
Pro: It's got Debbie Gibson! And a Shark jumps up to bite a plane.
Con: Lorenzo Lamas. And an octopus jumps up to knock a plane out of the air.

Question: need we dignify this with the word "filmmaking"?

These films are called 'mockbusters,' and are often spoofing a genre and sometimes piggybacking
on the publicity for a successful film. They are generally released direct to video.

I wouldn't knock it till I've seen it. That shark looks tough!

My vote for the best worst line in the flick: (stage whispered) "It rises...!"

I didn't know there was a word for it!
I assumed it was like "Dance Flick" and
"Scary Movie" in that it was lampooning
a genre.

Look, it's not hard to see that the Shark is really the old feudal aristocracy and the
Octopus is the rising corporate class (hence the tentacles). The movie, which
has a Marxist slant, portrays the historical clash between the two. The Octopus
is gonna win.

Either that or they're kidding.

Whatever the outcome, I'm just gonna crouch under the table and hope I don't look like food.

No, the true nadir of "filmmaking" was "Poultrygeist", made by the same people, without the name cast. "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus" looks epically good in comparison. It's truly the most disgusting waste of film ever. I would put a link to the trailer up for you all, but a) it's far from family friendly and b) you would need a bucket to throw up in before you get to the end of just the trailer!

(I'm betting someone will google it though. Say $5.00? But, really don't do it to yourself!!!!!)

This very movie was recommended for the pleasure of my commendable good taste only recently. I marvel that I, I, had never even heard heard of it. Do you know how disappointing it is to miss an opportunity for an utter waste of time that you can afterward disparage and only Denny will call you on it?

I fear I may have to turn in my Au Courant card. Already I suspect - no: I know - I'm being passed by more and more on the best guest-lists. Alas: I am become a mere social husk, chaff, crumpled dessicated orts and leavings, to be blown about the gutters and alleys willy-nilly by uncaring idiot gusts of the winds of obscurity. Sic transit gloria mundi. Sigh.
