I had a boyfriend who was a washboard player. Also a tango dancer... ah, those were the days.

He was a dance caller too, and he'd give the band a break at some point during the evening, and call a contra while he played the washboard and played harmonica. Honestly, the talent was tremendous. It was an absolute hoot and we all loved it.

The ties don't work half as well. Just the old fashioned wooden-frame washboard and a set of thimbles. Gee, that brings me back...
