Nouns: A Contest by Dale Wisely

Post by Dale »

According to a recent study in England, these are the most commonly used nouns in the English language, in order (most common first).

time
person
year
way
day
thing
man
world
life
hand
part
child
eye
woman
place
work
week
case
point
government
company
number
group
problem
fact

Ok, here's a challenge for you. Write a sentence or paragraph or poem that uses all of these words, only once each, and IN ORDER, beginning with "Time." The winning entry will minimize use of words not on the list and yet write something coherent and interesting.

I dunno...

Slan,

And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

Dale, congrats on 5K.
Now, on with the show. Just don't ask Bloomfield to help you deliberate. We'll need to know the winner before you hit 10K. ;)

The Time “Person of the Year” was on his way to the podium, thinking, “It’s not every day that this happens to a man. What a world! What a life! What a hand!” Although the part in his hair made him look like a child, he caught the eye of a gorgeous woman. She couldn’t place him at first. Work? That party last week? In any case, she decided to point knowingly at the chap and smile as he strode by. The government could use his company for a number of reasons. His group recognized this as a problem, as a matter of fact.

105 words. It ain't pretty, but it works in a pinch.

And speaking of 5000 posts:

Time flies for a person who wishes away the year. I know the way a day can be a thing of beauty. A man who takes the world and life in hand like a child, can eye up woman in his place of work each week and face a court case (a point the government made to his company a number of times.) His group has the biggest problem in fact.

Three things I have learned:

1. In time, a
person's
years fade
away
day by day.

2. The ultimate thing in
man's
worldly
life;
It is a handy
party; the
childish
eyeballing of
womanly
places.

3. The work of liberals:
Last week,
with a case of
one point five million dollars, the
government gave a
company a
numbered
group of
problems and
facts.
"Is that stupid? Maybe. But that's the way I am."

Rule clarification required:
Write a sentence or paragraph or poem that uses all of these words, only once each, and IN ORDER, beginning with "Time."
Must the sentence/paragraph/poem begin with the word Time or does it simply have to be the first of the words used? Please forward to the adjudicators for consideration. Their decision will be graciously accepted as long is is the former and correct interpretation.

Doesn't have to start with "Time."

We do not seek to control that.

Time--

Person, or year--

a way

one day--

one thing:

A man, his world, his life,

like his hand, another part,

like a child, his eyes. Where

Was a woman, is now just a place.

What's left? work, each week, each case--

a sad point---

like a government company number,

just another group, another problem,

another

fact.

Goodbye, Mary Jane. We miss you.
