Oh G_d, here come the "center of Mars" crazies. I've heard it's a docking ground for Martian spaceships.

Try as I might, I really can't stop seeing this is a positive (convex) image. It looks just like a flat marshmallow with a hole in the top.

Yeah, that's apparently supposed to be a crater surrounding the hole. I can generally manipulate optical illusions in my mind, but this refuses to be anything but convex for me.MTGuru wrote:Try as I might, I really can't stop seeing this is a positive (convex) image. Re: A Hole in Mars
When I looked the first time it was convex, now that I looked again (because of additional poss to the thread) I see it concave, and the shadow/sun inside the hole (reminds me of the sun spot inside the Pantheon in Rome, btw) looks correct (which it didn't when I saw it as convex).
But now I'm completely unable to switch it to convex.. it's concave from now on, apparently.

It's probably the Martian version of the Hollow Face Illusion.
Congratulations, you're not a Martian Schizophrenic!

Re: A Hole in Mars
Interesting. I immediately saw it as concave and can barely make myself flip it and see it as convex.
Re: A Hole in Mars
I agree the almost straight overhead perspective and shadows seem to make it a bit off for viewing it as convex.Dale wrote:Interesting. I immediately saw it as concave and can barely make myself flip it and see it as convex.
